Coral is correct. You should not be charged for the Geek Squad to look at your machine at all. Diagnostics are covered by Manufacturer Warranties and by our Black Tie Protection if purchased.

It is unfortunate that the GeekSquad attracts bad press, but we are too large a target to avoid that. As far as making the services free "like the genius bar", I do believe that Apple stores leverage the margin on their products to pay for those individuals. I think we all know that Apple charges a premium for their quality products.
