Search Product by Photo

Snap a picture of a product that initiates a search. The search should return the product identified (manufacturer and model number) along with other product information.

(I think I saw scr3wlo0se post this idea first in a comment under a different idea.)

Electronic Take-Back Program

A Take-Back Program would allow customers to return old or broken electronics to Best Buy retail stores instead of being put out for trash. This program would help prevent e-waste from heading to the landfills and increase recycling and re-use of materials. This kind of program would be the first for a retailer of this size, and would make huge impacts on cleaning up e-waste. A discount on new purchase would encourage customers to turn in old products and purchase from Best Buy.

Sell Solar Panels

Alternative energy should be accessible by all. If Best Buy were to start selling solar panels then the cost of the technology would start to decrease. Plus it would give more people access to technology and make it feel obtainable. Solar for all!

Crowdsourcing and open innovation are the future of product development.

Best Buy should allocate some of their ad budget to promoting this site. I'm going to mention it on the Invention Addict Blog.

Carry Quirky Crowdsourced Community Designed Products

Quirky has a variety of cool, out of the box, products that we feel would sell great in the Best Buy stores. In a similar fashion to your community of helpful associates that customers can turn to for tech help, we also have a community. However, our unique community is built of thousands of users(and growing) that come together to deliver new and innovative products. Quirky products are currently being sold in a number of online distribution channels but no Brick and Mortar store as of yet. We would love for Best Buy to be the first. Some of our product include the high selling PowerCurl cord management system for Macbook power cables, the Beamer-the first and only IPhone case that brings FLASH to the Iphone, and our newest creation the Quirky Cloak-The sleakest IPad Case out.

Please visit us at www.quirky.com to view our offerings, and reach us at the contacts below for information about distributing our Quirky products in your stores. Thank you for your time.

Mike- a Quirky Member!

General Inquiries
628 Broadway
3rd Floor
NYC, 10012
Phone: 866.545.4623
Email:questions@quirky.com
Interwebs:support.quirky.com
About Quirky: http://www.quirky.com/about

Do movie promo's on HDTV wall and charge for it

Generate millions of dollars of new revenue streams by charging movie studios to advertising movies that are coming soon to theaters or DVD. The studios have already made the trailer and it would allow them to reach millions of customers for a very low cost.

E.g. Let's say you want to advertise your movie at for two weeks at a 1000 Best Buy stores. Your 3 minute trailer plays a total of two hours a day (40 times a day). You get your trailer played 560,000 times. BBY charges only $100,000.

Do this with 100 movies and generate an incremental $10 million or more profit for the company.

Quit printing all those paper fact tags

Switch to digital fact tags.

It seems like you print most of the fact tags in the store almost every day (to keep pricing current, etc...).

How much paper could you save by going to digital fact tags? It would benefit to the environment, make your fact tags more accurate, and make the stores feel more technologically advanced.
Special features for FourSquare mayors

Store managers should make it a point to introduce themselves to the foursquare mayor of their store. On duty managers should monitor foursquare to know when frequent visitors are in the store.

Maybe even post a sign in the store with a photo of the current mayor.

Add foursquare check-in to your phone apps

Since I'm already using your app when I visit your store, I should be able to check into foursquare without quiting your app and launching foursquare.

Allow customers to take photo's in the store

The policy of not allowing photography in the stores is way outdated. You guys are a CAMERA store. You have expensive displays that allow me to try your cameras in the store, and you sell me phones with camera's in them.

If I want to blog about your store, take a picture of a product to add to my wish list, or post a picture from my shopping to trip to facebook I should be allowed. Some of your products even have 3D barcodes that TELL ME to take pictures of them, and in at least one store you have 3D barcodes on your own signs.

How can you have a no photography rule?
