Sales associates don't work on commission. Black Tie Protection is a great value for many customers.

Goodtimes209, most of the time, restocking is taken care of automatically based on inventory levels. Typically a product is out of stock because of some kind of hold up on the manufacturer's end. The warehouses are very efficient at getting they product they have instock out to stores.

Posted about 3 hours ago in response to Insignia Android Tablet - designed by employees and customers
As this continues to develop, I'm liking the idea more and more. As something that we can use in store, this device needs to be easy, quick, ergonomical, and fairly tough (how rough are most employees on telexons?).
Flag as inappropriateFrom the consumer point of view, putting a gobi chip in the device opens up AWESOME possibilities for our customers, and for margin $. Something like that could even open this device up to our business customers. If we'd love it to work with our customers, wouldn't any other business owner?

Scott,
Flag as inappropriateI think Android app development is potentially a great revenue stream. There are so many opportunities that open up when we start down that path as well. It has been said here before, but developing a Napster app would be one of the first things we should do when developing a tablet with an Android operating system. By allowing customers to purchase songs through a device has been a large boon for Apple (iPod touch/iPhone).
By using these in store we could reduce the number of computers we lease from IBM, eventually reducing the need to lease kiosks and registers all together depending on how well we use the tablets in the field. This may not be a revenue stream, but is a reduction of our yearly costs which effects the bottom line in a positive manner.
The most revenue would likely come from the accessories, services, and services plans.
I personally would like to see all of the accessories come from Rocketfish (just as a separation of brands). There would be accessories like Keyboards, Cases, chargers, headphones, speakers, projectors, docking stations, arm bands (to strap to the forearm), video game style controllers, pocket portable printers, cables, etc. which will all carry margin and allow for the same external customization that is possible internally with Android.
Services may include training, data backups, virus removal (not a large problem yet, but may become one as the operating system grows).
Service plans are a must on this device. We really need to carry an ADH, just like on notebooks. I can easily see a tablet being dropped, cracked, smashed, spilled on in many of it's uses. These plans would be a huge win-win for the customer and for Best Buy.
Just a final mention of app development. This would be huge for Best Buy to get into whether we end up developing an Android tablet or not. The number of Android powered devices are growing exponentially and now would be a great time to jump onto that band wagon. I could see a business model that takes ideas for apps and splits the profits with those who suggested it.

Hi baseballnpink -
Flag as inappropriateOur in-store Geek Squad agents should be able to help you out with an install on hardware on your new laptop at the time of purchase. Of course, what they're able to upgrade your laptop to as far as memory will depend on the laptop that you purchase, and not all laptops have upgradeable memory either. You can check out more about Geek Squad services computer hardware install services here: http://bit.ly/d7lptq.

Hi University of Pi -
Flag as inappropriateThanks for sharing your ideas here on IdeaX!
If you shop in any of our Best Buy store locations, they can add any amount you choose to a gift card. On BestBuy.com, however, we do offer only in specific denominations.

I agree. It makes little sense that I could not access this by using my regular bestbuy.com log-in without having to sign up separately for IdeaX...I thought the whole idea was to get ideas from your customers, and now, do you actually know the ideas you're getting are from your customers?

Posted 1 day ago in response to Option to select "Another person is picking up this order" on BestBuy.com
I completely agree. This would have been a real help recently when I purchased my son a laptop. Initially, I wanted to purchase the laptop on the website and have it available for him to pick it up at his local Best Buy store, since he lives several hours away, but after reading the fine print, realized this wasn't possible. I understand the idea behind having to show ID and the credit card used for purchase is to prevent fraud somehow, but it seems to me that a simple PIN number or password, or even his driver's license number entered at the time of purchase would be a reasonable work around.

I agree. As a writer, I often find myself needing to use my laptop in low-light situations., so I am actively in the market for a new laptop with this feature, even though there is nothing whatsoever wrong with my current laptop...

Coral is correct. You should not be charged for the Geek Squad to look at your machine at all. Diagnostics are covered by Manufacturer Warranties and by our Black Tie Protection if purchased.
